Following a NFL team Empty Following a NFL team

Post by Bartell Thu May 11, 2017 8:56 am

Helloooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo

So I think over the passed 18 months I've got more into the NFL again (as a result of playing SML really lol)

Currently I have no allegiance to any team! Generally when I'm watching I watch the red zone show and it focuses on all games however i think I miss part of the excitement not having a team to "support/follow"

Many of you obviously have teams you support/follow but how did you end up choosing that team?  lol Please help me pick a team

Many Thanks  Very Happy

I picked the Lions as they were consistently one of the worst two teams in Madden etc. growing up. As a result I would always start a franchise with them every year to turn their fortunes around. Grew to love the Honolulu blue that way!

Just kidding, when I started to watch football one of the first games I saw was a game of the Titans with Steve McNair and Eddie George. I loved the two guys so I start to love the Titans. That's the way it goes

I'm from Texas, my whole family supported the Cowboys and I did by default really. Not a single regret though!

Following a NFL team Empty Re: Following a NFL team

Post by Mattanite Thu May 11, 2017 12:40 pm

I got into the NFL in the early 2000s, I had no clue what was going on and just liked watching deep bombs. Naturally I fell in love with Culpepper to Moss so watched a bit of Vikings when I could. I really liked their defence in the late 2000s when they were cheated to a Superbowl by the Saints in 2009. Plus AP was very fun to watch, so progressively became a Vikings fan.
I love the older teams with history like Packers, Steelers, Browns etc. I've seen the Lions, Falcons, Jaguars and Cowboys at Wembley Stadium and I also love an underdog team (which is why I might draft the browns next year if available).
My fiancé likes the Jaguars just so she can say "I like Bortles" in the "I like turtles" kids voice Razz she was happy to find out Toby Gerhart was on the Jags when we saw them too, as in Madden, when she used to call "dinners ready" I used to sub AP for Gerhart to run out the clock and shout back "okay, Gerharting it"... And I think she secretly fancied Jared Allen back in the day ha.

Lived in Boston when I was 21 and grew to love the New England Patriots. Went to Patriot place and Gillette stadium and never looked back.

Bartell - do you support any football clubs? Is there any NFL players you identify with? Something like that might help you follow a team.

Following a NFL team Empty Re: Following a NFL team

Post by Bishbosh1985 Thu May 11, 2017 7:16 pm

Let's start at the stat shall we. One man had a vision, George Stanley Halas.
A pioneer both on and off the field, Halas made the Bears the first team to hold daily practice sessions, to analyze film of opponents to find weaknesses and means of attack, place assistant coaches in the press box during games, place tarp on the field, publish a club newspaper, and to broadcast games by radio.[20] He also offered to share the team's substantial television income with teams in smaller cities, firmly believing that what was good for the league would ultimately benefit his own team.

By coincidence, i got hooked on the Bears in 1985 - without a doubt the most impactful team on the modern game. Not just because of the most entertaining defese ever, but because they reversed flagging tv audiences and a new viewpoint from the league bosses.

The 85 Bears defense also accelerated the West Coast Offense to help QB's survive a full game.

So, founder of the Bears and Co-founder of the league, plus the most amazing team (85) in the history of the league made my choice pretty easy.

Following a NFL team Empty Re: Following a NFL team

Post by ParaAUT Thu May 11, 2017 10:00 pm

I think just choosing the favorite team will be difficult. Honestly I don't really know how I came to follow the Raiders, I just happened somehow. I liked them at the beginning, then I started to read more about it and it happened that I got really into the topic and started to follow them mainly. After some years they became my favorite team - I think that's a process and not just a decision.

What could help you:
Which players do you like watching?
Which team culture do you like ("clean" teams, bad boys, big city team)?
Do you have a favorite city?

I think if you just watch you will see some teams you are interested in and maybe one will become your favorite after some years...

Well I slowly making progress lol

The players I like - that is tough. There are some real good players around and I've found myself liking them for different reasons - the bad thing is not many if more than one are on the same team

I did watch the All or Nothing and find myself maybe having a soft spot for the Cards but I'm not committed to them yet - they also play in my football team colours so there is a tedious link there - speaking of this tedious link I suppose that could also lead me to the Falcons, Bucs maybe and maybe 49ers

For favorite city maybe NY - that would be Giants over Jets for me lol

Always had a soft spot for Raiders and Rams in years gone by.

As you can see its not very easy and I've put some thought into it lol
