Re: SMLE Draft Expert Season 28 Mock Draft
Commentary
Pick | Team | Remarks |
1 | Panthers | This is the toughest No1 pick in a while for SMLE, but George is Deion Sanders level talent and needed to shut down Julio Jones, Mike Evans and Michael Thomas. |
2 | Jets | The Jets just missed out on a WR in the FA market and could look for a pass rusher but last season they were dying for offense and Fisher is the next Calvin Johnson clone. |
3 | Texans (from Bills) | The easy pick right now is QB but they've got two serviceable starters and the coach loves his defensive players so Paymah is the pick. |
4 | Seahawks | The Seahawks need to find a way to score on the 49ers and Rams to take the division, enter the ultimate battering ram Oneill to avoid throwing their way. |
5 | Redskins | The Redskins ousted Bradford and were trying to cut Smith but are tied in for big money. He's holding a clipboard as big arm Haggerty is this pick. |
6 | Bears | The Bears could look for OL and WR help here but Wadsworth just has too much talent for the Bears to pass on. He's quick and gets to the QB. |
7 | Raiders | The Raiders would be drooling over a CB here but he's gone and so they must make the unsexy pick of OL to protect Carr. Rose is the best OL on my draft board. |
8 | Cardinals | The Cardinals still have nightmares of Donald and will continue to build the OL to protect Rosen and open up better gaps for the double headed HB beast. |
9 | Falcons | Falcons need to shore up the interior of the OL to give Matty Ice chance to step up and deliver to Julio Jones. Mahaffey fits the bill |
10 | Titans | The Titans surprised everyone last year with a new QB but Mariota has proven he can't stay healthy. They build the pass rush back up to pressure Luck and Bundren. |
11 | Chargers | The Chargers are selling QB Graham Marks as the next big thing, and whilst he's flashed, he's not as near the laser accuracy and mobility of Norman. |
12 | 49ers | The 49ers are hurting after the retirement of Joe Staley and need a replacement. Look for a shuffle of OL positions to make room for great technician G/T Dye. |
13 | Giants | The Giants defense continues to morph and Jenkins should play one more year, They rebuilt the OL so they go with an elite LB to shore up that D. |
14 | Lions | The Lions have large blanks at C and G but there's depth to the draft whereas safety drops off quite quick. Gholston is a big hitting enforcer and gives the Lions bite back. |
15 | Packers | The Packers need to buy time for Arod and his new interception habit. Barr isn't the best OL technically but he's dripping with potential. |
16 | Colts (from Jaguars) | The Colts offense is looking good but the D is a bunch of no names. Onatolu slides in the draft due to need but is a physical freak to give the D some respect back. |
17 | Patriots | The Pats don't have many needs after they went shopping in FA. They do however need some depth at WR and Turk is the 2nd WR in the 1st. |
18 | Steelers | Bigben finally rang his last bell. The door is open for a return but if that doesn't happen, expect the Steelers to look for his replacement. |
19 | Texans | The Texans continue to build on D after missing out on George but take the highly intelligent Snow. He's not the greatest athlete but locks the zones up tight. |
20 | Browns | The Browns get the super strong McCray who fits the Coach's need for athletic linebackers. They don't have many needs elsewhere so this seems a good fit. |
21 | Eagles | The Eagles have had a slight hole at the LB spot and the rest of the division all has heavy run Games. Curtis might be slow but he closes quick with great strength. |
22 | Ravens | The Ravens create a double headed read option attack and stop Wootten's fall down the 1st round. He's older but physically gifted and loves contact. |
23 | Bengals | The Bengals could go QB but 2 were taken last draft and the Red Rocket is still on the market. They pick up the super strong Gilbert to play the 1gap. |
24 | Saints | The Saints are considering playing the backup QB from last season, and whilst they do rely on the run game, they need a better QB to take advantage of the WR corp. |
25 | Rams | The Rams need inside OL as Goff was one of the most sacked QBs and lead the league in fumbles (1 spin stripsack fumble per game). West at least helps the problem. |
26 | Chiefs | The Chiefs love a marketable name and LBs that can go sideline to sideline and hit big. This Tank brings the Payne! This pick just feels like destiny... |
27 | Colts | The Colts continue to build their defense back up with a tough balanced slot CB. Not to toot his Horne too much but he's rather good. |
28 | Vikings | The Vikings could go safety with this pick and there's still WR on the market. They picked up a lot of good OL last draft but they need a couple more so Mack is the pick. |
30 | Buccaneers | The Bucs could do with some depth at WR as they can't afford to lose Mike Evans but they also have holes at safety. Phifer is a decent athlete but needs a bit of work. He's got that Tampa2 Zone though. |
31 | Rams (from Broncos) | The Rams biggest weakness on D is the MLB spot. Kiser is learning but Johns adds that coverage ability and is insurance should one of the LBs walk in FA. |
29 | Dolphins | The Dolphins could be experimenting with Minkah Fitzpatrick at CB so need his replacement at Safety. Heeney is also that same build as a hybrid CB/S should they choose otherwise and an elite athlete. |
32 | Cowboys | The Cowboys don't have many holes but could do with an upgrade on the DL. Nalen could be a reach here without elite speed but has the talent to help this team. |

Re: SMLE Draft Expert Season 28 Mock Draft
Draft Awards
Best Draft - Panthers, they we're being dragged from pillar to post for various trade offers for No1 but they stuck to their guns in generational talent CB George, an 82ovr 97spd Superstar HB. They also took another Superstar (such a rarity) in TE/FB Lawry who dropped from the 1st. FS Phifer is a great 74 ovr 84zone safety who'll start day 1 as will 74ovr LG West. 73ovr Rolb Stephens is a decent pick and will likely move over to the strong side. To top it all off, a great late round selection of DT/DE speed rusher 71ovr quick dev Chance Mcintyre who could develop into a starter at the LE or RE spot.
Worst Draft - Jaguars, it's a bit unfair to grade a team without a 1st round pick (who they exchanged in a mega deal for Quentin Nelson, which includes next years) but as a team about to approach cap hell and a penchant for trading veterans for mid round picks, the Jags needed to hit on the picks they did have. DT 75ovr Oman in the 2nd was okay but they're stacked at DT, ROLB 73ovr Kingsbury has great athletics and means Jack can switch back to the natural MLB. They went two pedestrian safeties in the 6th and 7th who could be cut, and a 67ovr C in the 4th. Their best late round pick LG Sands was a 73ovr SMLE draft expert hot tip.
Most Likely to Bust - S Theo Heeney, Saints - Watch me eat my words... Heeney is a 75ovr normal dev athlete selected with the 24th overall pick. The coach is known to love a user LB and therefore Heeney could be left isolated starting at SS. He's a great user but will need some coaching up to be a viable cpu starter. He could easily be the most likely to Boom if used the right way.
Most Likely to Boom - HB Tavin Oneill, Lions - Valued as the top skill player before the combine, Oneill then dropped to pick 14 with concerns over his athletics. But the Lions coach got a superstar season out of old powerback Blount and if Oneill becomes the day1 starter he'll be 99 trucking in a season or two and flattening the rest of the NFC North.
Steal of the Draft - HB Bennett Wootten, Raiders - They said he was probably too slow, too old, not as good as Oneill to the Lions and he dropped to the 2nd round where the Raiders scooped up their 78ovr Superstar replacement for Lynch! He'll be 99 trucking by the end of Madden19 too and the new day 1 starter. Wootten was also an SMLE draft expert Hot Tip for the Chiefs just a few picks before too!!!
Reach of the Draft - K Ryne Shaffer, Rams - The Rams have a habit of reaching for role players and Shaffer fits that. He was a 7th round projection with 1st round true talent... but with 87 kick power taken with the 3rd pick of the 4th round. 78ovr but the next kicker was better. He fits what the Rams need as they stall in the redzone too often, the 94 accuracy helps there.
Solid Pick - K Curtis Novak, Cowboys - The 80ovr quick dev rookie is a sniper with better leg and only taken at the end of the 4th round. The cowboys don't need field goals much but Novak won't be getting some canned block animation from 30yards out.
Daring Pick - WR Charlton Hunter, Chiefs - The 74ovr speedster was taken with the 26th pick of the 1st round purely based on his combine. He's a young Hill clone (before he was good) with 94 speed and acceleration but scouting only showed a C+ for catching. Daring pick to draft a 4th in the 3rd.

This is a really interesting draft as it looks like there's an unusually high amount of talent spread throughout.
The Bears go bpa at 6.......

Great mock Mr Guru.
I've got about 25% OL in the 1st but that could easily jump to 50% OL hahahaha.
You're right though, great spread of elite talent in the Top10 and then decent talent to be had all in the 1st round. Some positions depth drops off in the 3rd round but some positions have great depth all throughout the draft.

Panthers GOAT CB George No1
Jets Freak WR Fisher No2
Redskins big-arm QB Haggerty No5
Titans beast OLB Waters No10
Colts speedster DT Onatolu No16
Colts shutdown CB Horne No27
But then guessed:

Cardinals, Falcons, 49ers, Vikings would go OL
Giants would go LB
