I have an injured player from last year out for another 12 weeks I think, If I put him on IR can he come back or is he done for the season?

I believe he comes off your roster for the season! You may as well keep him because by the time pre season is over he won't have that many weeks to go

Yes IR takes them out for the whole season so I'd suggest not to put him on IR.
