Chiefs Draft Recap
Round 1, Pick 26 - Charlton Hunter WR
Tyreek Hill may or may not be a Chief after this season ends. With high wage demands and an MVP calibre QB to resign too. The chance that Hill gets traded on his tag is high. Chiefs wanted OL, but didn't want to reach for an OL talent in the 1st if they weren't "the right fit" for Mili's pass heavy O. So enter Charlton Hunter, projected to go in the 4th round with question marks on his hands. He is lightning Kick Returner from a small school. A great route runner on deep and intermediate routes to boot, however prone to concentration drops and not brilliant in traffic. Look for him to feature heavily heavily in pre season as he tries to prove he is a Hill clone and not a Heyward-Bey clone
Round 2, Pick 2 - Daniel Monroe DL
Mili enjoys a reach (around). Daniel Monroe was not a highly touted prospect, however put up a whopping 39 reps on the bench press. Brought in to help anchor the Chiefs run D with last years reach Magarito Stanley. These are 2 big boys who can play either end or nose in a 34 and the inside DL in their 43. Versatile players are key for Mili. Monroe will look to take advantage of Stanley and Murphy also on the line to get 1 on 1 matchups
Round 2, Pick 8 - Richard Lucky OL
Another surprise pick....shocker! However, this was "Lucky" for everyone involved. A solid enough pass blocker to suit the [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] and a high character guy. Lucky is one of the hardest working players to come out this draft and is an information sponge. Look for him to develop rapidly into one of the best interior pass blockers in the league
Round 2, Pick 17 - Watts Baker RB
The Chiefs took a lot of role players this draft. Watts Baker had the best 40 time in all RBs in the draft. and shiftier back with great hands, he lined up a lot in the slot for the Orangemen throughout his final season. He could very well find himself doing this role here. Versatility remains a focus point of this draft, with holes all over the roster
Round 3, Pick 8 - Joel Warren RB
Another running back. Mili must be lost. A not an absolute wrecking ball, but a difficult man to bring down. He may not bowl over a LB, but he will drive through arm tackle all day long. His slight crossover with Mahomes at Texas Tech mean he could slot into a role very early and compete with Darkwa for short yardage work early on
Round 3, Pick 25 - Simon Brady TE
6'8, one of the fastest 40's in his position, is called Brady. That is all you need to know about this absolute monster. He is a raw athlete and will need a lot of refinement. But this Basketball convert has the tools the succeed, given time
Round 3, Pick 26 - Anton Gross DL
Another DL as Mili looks to shore up his run D after the Raiders pick up a machine to go behind Cam. Gross isn't the strongest player in the draft. But he is powerful enough and he is technically gifted enough to be a force in the run game. a sure tackler is needed it would seem
Round 4, Pick 26 - Paul Peek LT
Peek wasn't at the draft. Peek wasn't watching the draft. Peek was getting ready for a job interview. Projected to go undrafted, it would have seemed he'd given up on his dream. But Mili liked what he saw from the former Hoosier. He is hoping that he can develop the young LT into a starter
Round 5, Pick 26 - Jermauria Bernard DL
The versatility continues! Bernard isn't going to see much action on run downs. But as a nickel package DT to show some of the power blocking guards something different, Bernard could have a very real impact early into his career
Round 6, Pick 26 - Ben Myers OL
This is a grown ass man. Myers was hoping to be a priority FA after the draft, with a strong showing at the combine. He was punishing at a lower level of competition at Montana. The hope will be that he can develop a technical side to his game instead of being a pure brute
Round 7, Pick 21 - Dejuan Vinnett QB
An absolute project. Mili, being the hall of famer he is, wanted someone with some tools to work with as a back up to Mahomes. Vinnett is a 6'7 QB with an arm more than strong enough to make the throws. Decently accurate but a statue, he will need a lot of work and could find himself spending a year or 2 on the practice squad learning
Round 7, Pick 24 - BJ Cumbie OL
Not a bad player I guess, could do a job when called upon. Funny name and it's probably why he got drafted
Round 7, pick 25 - Reid Short Equipment Manager
What is Reid Short? He isn't a running back, despite his decent power with ball in hand. He isn't a full back, although he is a tremendous pass blocker at times, he can't lead the way for a HB. He isn't a tight end in even the slightest bit. Look for Short to have a "Short" career in the NFL
