Re: SMLE Draft Expert Season 29 Mock Draft
Commentary
Pick | Team | Remarks |
1 | Titans | Mariota can't stay healthy but the D can't stop anyone. I expect them to come back to the deep DT class later and the OL class isn't great. Barnett is a clone of the “milibomber”, founder of Bombsquad, and Titans can start a mini rebuild. |
2 | Steelers | Big Ben rang his last bell, the Steelers are looking for a new face of the franchise. Irons is the opposite of Barnett, a great accurate rhythm passer with questionable arm strength but super toughness. |
3 | Giants | The Giants could go WR here but it's a crowded group then, instead they take the physical freak Blair who scored an 8 on the combine and they instantly lock down the Cowboys, Redskins and Eagles deep ball. |
4 | Jets | The Jets traded Anderson but have the freak WR Fisher but they pair his verticality with Young's speed and suddenly the Jets passing game is deadly!!! This pick could be CB Blair if the Giants go WR. |
6 | Bills | The Bills love speed at their LB spot and they let Milano walk. Boy does Sowell have speed!!!! This pick could be OL but they feel like a reach with so many good defensive players on the board. |
7 | Panthers | Panthers freak out as DT Roby drops into their laps due to the needs of other teams causing a mini free fall. With this pick the team finishes it's retool of the defensive line in the hopes they can stop the run in the AFC South. |
5 | Colts (from Jaguars) | Colts managed to fix their linebacker spot with free agency and will be looking for CB to pair with new FA Jenkins and last years draft pick CB Horne in the slot. In walks Acey Benson as the new no1 CB. |
9 | Saints | A new coach might want to bring in their own QB but most of them seem a reach at this spot. Instead they go with the high potential athlete Huggins and hope he can develop as quick as advertised. |
8 | Chiefs | This pick is a hard one... Any freak player showing amazing skill could be it with the Chiefs eyeing DL, Safety and LB. They need a TE but they all suck this draft. In walks Gray with that big hit swagger! |
11 | Cowboys | The Cowboys forfeited this pick in a trade for Coach Zill with the Jags. Hello Mr Super Irrelevant in one of the UDFA Tight Ends... Most likely this 4.90 40 dash beauty! |
10 | Raiders | The Raiders won the darling of free agency in CB Lattimore, they could add another... or find a QB or TE but they're all reaches here. Instead they pick the power OL Erickson with the view to him moving to RT to pave the way for Power HB Bennett. |
14 | Seahawks | The Seahawks are building a new more badass leagion of boom with the return of ET3. FS McKinney fits the new role as Bam Bam in this movie sequel, a hard hitting tall athlete who plays the box well. |
15 | Redskins | This pick could also be Heisman winner Kelce but I think need wins over talent here. So the Redskins go with super duper athletic Shivers who'll sweep deep locking down the NFC Easts deep attacks. |
17 | Colts | The Colts continue their rebuild and pick up a replacement OL for the traded Nelson. Reiff is a powerful attacking blocker and allows LG Peat to step back over to LT so the move creates 2 starters with 1 pick. |
12 | Lions | The Lions lost everyone to free agency and it'll be hard to build back up. They need every position on defense but Simon at least replaces the star they lost in Slay. This pick could also go OL but they're all reaches here. |
13 | Packers | The Packers sorted the safety position in Free Agency so this pick will come down to a shiny new LB to go through Packer-school like MLB Burks, or it's a big play WR to get Aaron Rodgers even more touchdowns with WR Mebane. |
16 | Bears | The Bears will strike gold if fast riser Carroll falls to them at 17. They need pass rush so that the offense doesn't have to put up a tonne of points per game and Carroll gives them their own version of Mack on the DL. |
18 | Ravens | The Ravens moved to a 43 but never got a full compliment of LB. This pick could also be CB in the wake of the trades but Smallwood feels like a fit at OLB and can cover the pass and run well. |
19 | Cardinals | The Cardinals team was sacked so much the coach left bruised to take on managing a superbowl winner. Now the new coach needs to continue the OL rebuild and Leach is a jack of all trades guard to give the offense options. |
20 | Bengals | The Bengals are on an interim coach as their D ages or falls apart. Pellerin gives the DL some teeth back to the big old cat. They might pick up one of the safeties or linebackers here too. |
21 | Browns | Finally!!! Not a LB to the Browns!! They love sacks, so lets give them a sack artist DT in Spencer. The AFC North will have fits as they see the amount of talent rushing at them on any play. |
22 | Packers (from Patriots) | The Packers have transitioned to a 43 but still need a 3down weakside LB, Rodenhauser has the talent to stay on the field every down and gives the Packers flexibility on personnel in each formation. |
23 | Titans (from Vikings) | Titans get a steal if Morgan drops out the Top10 all this way, but it's likely to happen as he hasn't shown signs he can stand up to the run like other Dts in this class. Expect him to move to 34DE and cause fits for the OL on 3rd downs. |
24 | Falcons | Falcons need a NT to go beside Jarret and Barnett is proven to be adequate against both the pass and run with the size and height to plug holes and block passing lanes for the QB. |
25 | Rams | The Rams were lucky to pull their season back from 0-5 and they rely too heavily on their stars to carry games. They need depth at WR should one of the starters go down and Logan comes in as a development project with physical talent. |
26 | Chargers | Jakie Hansen is the least athletically gifted of the first round LBs but outside of Gray he's the best run stopper and suited to move over to OLB in the Chargers system. It'll be easy locking the strong side down next to Bosa. |
27 | 49ers | The 49ers need to get to the QB. They've thinned their depth at RB and they have a need on the interior OL. In this scenario, the 9ers take a risk that Morris has all the potential that was promised and moves to DE in the 43. |
28 | Dolphins | The Dolphins will likely go best player available to try and sustain a roster that suffereed a bitter playoff defeat that got the coach sacked. Hurns fills the hole at FS but isn't a naturally cover guy, more of an enforcer over the middle. |
29 | Bills (from Texans) | The Bills need a compliment to CB White and Clayton Rodd drops due to questions regarding his athleticism, but like we saw with the Rams CB Snow last season, they can develop well in the slot. |
30 | Eagles | The Eagles luckily got the bye giving QB Wentz more time to heal but the problem comes with an ageing OL letting him get hit! LT Fitzsimmons is a bit of a reach but the OL are gone and he is a dire position of need. |
31 | Packers (from Broncos) | The Packers traded elusive pass catcher Tevin Coleman for this pick and need to find a replacement. The HB might all drop to the 2nd round but here the Packers find a solid short yardage back when Rodgers can't get it done in the air. |
30 | Buccaneers | The Bucs have a new coach but the same roster holes. They managed to retain their superbowl winning stars but need to sort out the safety position for when they come across a playoff team that isn't run first. |

Re: SMLE Draft Expert Season 29 Mock Draft
Draft Awards
Best Draft: Steelers - They took the 2nd QB that a lot of coaches were unsure of and he turns out to be a 77ovr superstar and the 2nd coming of Big Ben. CB Trey Simon in the 2nd was a surprise 77ovr Quick dev player and the 4th round steal in Star dev HB Shawn Hall is a great spell back and can catch, the only slight blemish is LT Bryan Sheets (72ovr) in the 3rd. Late round picks included 72ovr TE Anthony Hyde (80 speed) too!
Worst Draft: Giants - I try not to double down on awards for teams, but the LT at no4 plays into the class as a whole. 74 normal dev now-guard, 75 and 73 normal dev CBs, 69 quick and 68 normal dev OL and a 72 normal dev K but with a shining UDFA pickup in 91speed 70ovr HB in the 7th. It was a tough first draft but maybe he's drafted the perfect players for scheme...?
Most likely to Bust: Packers - Victor Carroll 76ovr quick dev DE, sometimes this is a player pushed into the wrong scheme but in this case it's a speed rusher RE now behind two other established recent 1st round picks in Peck and Nalen, it's good to have depth but he'll not get the touches.
Most likely to Boom: Rams - B.J. Spencer 78ovr star dev DT, it's a bit immodest to put one of my own picks here but I was in shock when a B+ finesse move DL made it to pick 25... and he's an instant starter surrounded by Aaron Donald, Michael Brockers, Justin Houston and Samson Ebukam.
Steal of the Draft: Jets - Kendrick Harper came in the 5th round as a 76ovr Quick dev with great traits and 85spec catch and 85med route running. Andrew Young was a great pick and the Jets WR corp is now lethal with Farrington Fisher, but Harper is a big bodied slot WR who finishes the unit. (Honourable mention, Cardinals Superstar CB Damond McKinney in the 2nd)
Reach of the Draft: Giants - Gregory Washington is a 74ovr normal dev LT who couldn't even win the job in training camp and now already plays RG... that's a Pick no4 Guard... when the likes of Trett Reach (79ovr quick dev), Timothy Reiff (80ovr Star dev) and Griffen Erickson (79ovr quick dev) we're all available and mocked high.
Solid Pick: Chiefs - Acey Benson 84ovr quick dev CB. CB Andre Blair had the 8 combine rating with Benson coming in at 7.7 but he turned out to be the best player in the draft at pick 9, this is a solid pick to fortify the Chiefs pass D and a great player amongst a lot of good defensive rookies.
Daring Pick: Seahawks - Kelcy Morris 75ovr star dev OLB. This is the opposite of the Benson pick above, the Seahawks took a gamble on the potential dev (which paid off), but he's playing either OLB in a crowded LB corp or DE in a crowded DL. He had a 2nd round rating but was taken no12, a daring pick by a team known for getting sacks.
