Re: SMLE Draft Expert S30 Mock Draft
The remarks
Pick | Team | Remarks |
1 | Saints | The Saints signed Cousins but need a future franchise QB, the debate will be Heck's talent vs Watkins potential. Whoever doesn't get picked could drop out of the top10! |
2 | Dolphins | I think the Dolphins will look to the top OL and shift one of the OT inside. Foley is a great LT and worthy of the No2 pick. |
3 | Titans | Lars has a history of taking a big hitting dominant DL early, and with this pick his D just got a whole lot more nasty. Big hits ahoy with this Suh clone. |
4 | Redskins | Redskins could go TE here but CB is a more pressing need and the LT they wanted is off the board. Gilbert has the big name and big play ability. |
5 | Bengals | This pick could also be Vellano or Saunders if he drops but I think the Bengals go with need. Carr is a speedster DE who's need to collapse and contain the Browns QB. |
6 | Bears | The Bears transitioned to a 43 and the DL needs to be completed. Vellano comes in pro ready and makes the Packers and Vikings job of racking CPU wins a lot harder. |
7 | Steelers | The Steelers could go Bubba Harrington here but Larry Fletcher plays the SLB and Watt moves over to WLB for a nasty level pass rush. He's got speed AND power! |
8 | Cardinals | The Cardinals surprise everyone by passing on QB Watkins in favour of scheme personnel. Demarco isn't that fast but boy he can escape and throw!! |
9 | Seahawks | The Seahawks were shopping to upgrade the DB corps and could still be in play for Chiefs Berry perhaps. If not they get a great hybrid cover safety in the NFC West. |
10 | Panthers | The fans will be happy to see this Greg Olsen clone fall to them! Darling has got size, speed and great catching ability. |
11 | Lions | Now there is an interim coach covering the Lions they'll be tough to predict. I think the replace the lost Slay with Ray Regis and begin the rebuild. |
12 | Ravens | This is the first of 3 1st round picks and I think the Ravens shore the OL first. This pick could also be RG Jacoby Watkins but Brooking is a freak athlete. |
13 | Falcons | The Falcons will have a choice between Fazande and Watkins and I think they pick they guy to handle speed rushers and as a better run blocker. |
14 | Giants | Man if Keaton falls this far the Giants are laughing. He's got blazing speed and can get to the QB. Essential for playing in the tough NFC East. |
15 | Chargers | It's about time the Chargers handled their QB business properly. No more rolling out No-Names with the tag “it'll be fine, we have Gordon”. Watkins is it! |
16 | Jets | The Jets rebuild has been astounding and they're a pass rusher, OL and lockdown CB away from being a contender. Hill is the best CB available and good value here. |
17 | Bills | There's no such thing as a run game in Buffalo, that needs to change and Cone is the bellcow for the job. He'll need work on his moves but is an athlete with potential. |
18 | Eagles | The Eagles OL is mostly gone and they need to get their offense going. Watkins is a great pass blocker and shifts over to C to replace a future HoF. |
19 | Raiders | This one is a tough one, the Raiders have a dying need on OL and their DT situation is up in the air, but there's noone at FS and Engelberger is great value here. |
20 | Jaguars | The Jaguars go BPA (best player available) and both safeties have gone. Fair might not pass the eye test at the combine but he's a great slot weapon in the short game. |
21 | Vikings | The Vikings need a 3rd option WR and already have two guys for the slot. They opt for Sherman as a strong bigger bodied outside WR with great technique. |
22 | Broncos | This is the start of the run on linebackers. Johns is my pick for the broncos as he's a pure tackler with blazing speed! |
23 | Buccaneers | The next LB off the board is Dubose to the Bucs who play a hybrid but need a cover LB for the SLB in 43. He's super fast and covers well. |
24 | Chiefs | Predicting the 3rd run on LB but the Chiefs will probably go for some freak athlete in the 4th round and regret the rest of the draft. Holley has potential and some speed. |
25 | Ravens (from 49ers) | The 2nd Ravens pick in the QB Jackson trade, they meed to replace the young CB they traded last time and Morgan Davis has great zone skills and good athleticism |
26 | Packers | The Packers have built a great D but at the cost of the Offense. Rodgers is holding it all together but they need a threat in the run game. Peagues is the Pegasus!!! |
27 | Browns | I have never guessed this Coach's pick right but this WR is just too much of a temptation and gives the Browns a legitimate deep threat offense. |
28 | Ravens (from Patriots) | The final Ravens pick and they pick a WR in Bowers who's suited for the run-possession game, he'll be lethal in the short field on PA. |
29 | Texans | The Texans rolled out a mostly injured Josh Allen and still managed to get far with him and his backup. Experts question Schmidt's arm strength but not the accuracy. |
30 | Rams | The Rams are known for taking the BPA even when it's out of scheme (Zone CB, Speed DT) or an OL but they're gone. DT Daniels is the BPA and a good rotation DT. |
31 | Cowboys | The Cowboys don't have many needs unless he trades himself into having needs... Bryce Hoffman comes in as a solid 2-down LB. |
32 | Colts | The Colts look loaded but are paying the price for the Nelson trade now and have to rebuild a shaky OL. C Fox fits a need and is good value at the end of the 1st. |

Re: SMLE Draft Expert S30 Mock Draft
Draft Awards
Best Draft: Steelers - It was a tough one to grade as there were many guys who zoned in on a deep draft for good backups and starters all over. But the Steelers capitilised on LT Frank Foley (80, quick) when he magically dropped to no7, then picked up quick dev SS Long Lucas in the 3rd and WR Mario Flowers in the 6th, and stole star dev RT Banks Cook in the 4th. They didn't drop below 70 with their TE and other LT drafted too.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Worst Draft: Browns - Again, it was a tough one as no-one did that poorly. A decent pick in DT Wade (76ovr) in the 1st and CB Sanders (74ovr) in the 4th but their TE in the 2nd was just as good as the speedy TE being drafted in the 6th round, and the rest of the rookies (FS, FS, WR) are low.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Most likely to Boom: Deonte Pegues, HB, Bills - The weapon of the draft was being fought between the Pegasus and the Traffic Cone. The Pegasus dropped to the middle of the 1st round and the 81ovr quick dev HB looks like lightning in a bottle and an instant starter.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Most likely to Bust: Zack Cone, HB, Seahawks - He needs some work, and considering he was the no9 pick, it's a lot to ask for a 74ovr quick dev Power Back who can't truck and looks injury prone. Let's see what he can do in 10 games before being knocked out for the season.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Steal of the Draft: Blair Schmidt, QB, Chargers - The Chargers finally have a QB and they didn't have to sacrifice a 1st round pick to one (which the Coach is loathe to do)! The 79ovr Quick Dev chucker is an instant starter.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Reach of the Draft: Shawn McBriar, C, Dolphins - In defense of this pick, it was made by a 3 year old (the Coach's kid was asked who does he like the look of) but considering there were 72 to 75 ovr OL being picked from the 3rd right to the 7th this becomes an easy reach.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Solid Pick: Antonio Hill, CB, Texans - Considering Hill was mocked to the Jets at 16, it was a surprise to see him go at pick 30 and at 78ovr and the only Superstar Dev in the draft the Texans landed yet another piece to an already stacked team.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Daring Pick: DJ Banks, ROLB, Broncos - Whilst Banks wasn't a lock for the 1st round, he was picking up traction just before the draft and went to a team with two established starters. He's an expensive rotational backup but he's a very good one at that.

Re: SMLE Draft Expert S30 Mock Draft
Buccs play a 3-4 - Matt, although cpu drafted a QB. Not one starter drafted, easily candidate for worst draft!

Re: SMLE Draft Expert S30 Mock Draft
I tend to take into account if the coach was present or not in awards, not fair to pin a worst draft on a draft board, or worse, an auto-draft.
Re: SMLE Draft Expert S30 Mock Draft
So according to the draft recap,
I guessed 4 picks correctly.... not my best attempt. (Titans, Redskins, Bengals, Ravens CB)
I predicted 6 further positions (Ravens OL, Bills HB, Raiders S, Broncos LB, Cowboys LB, Colts OL)
I got 22 other picks really wrong ha.
I missed 7 players off my mock who moved up so I got 25 players predicted to be 1st rounders.
In other news... just to rub it in, had some coaches listened to the mock they'd be up on overall and dev as my prediction metric showed I ended up +7ovr on predictions and +80 in dev value (ignoring un-mocked players). But then some coaches like the Texans, Packers and Bills played their own cards right!

Re: SMLE Draft Expert S30 Mock Draft
Great stuff as usual [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
Hopefully DeBose turns into a lurk machine for me. He was 80 when I drafted him and even when I changed from ROLB to MLB in game. DL showing 78 OVR now for some reason though. Either way I didn't expect to get 2 day one starters and a Star dev HB out of this draft especially without a 2nd rounder. Seems like there weren't many studs but a lot of depth this draft.

Re: SMLE Draft Expert S30 Mock Draft
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] It's a problem with Madden that they judge MLB ovr more strictly than OLB therefore the shift from mlb-olb swings between 2ovr and 4ovr. This isn't factored into the calc either so MLBs are worth less than they should be. Hopefully new OVR in m20 fixes that somewhat.
