Going Digital

Hey guys, I've decided that on PS4 it is time to go digital with my games and have been downloading them where possible. As many of you probably know though, the price of some of the games on PSN, especially stuff from 3rd party publishers like EA and Activision are bordering on ludicrous. Why in the EU there seems to be some kind of "next gen tax" with the price hike of games yet in the US the prices are the same as they were really winds me up. Anyway...

I started doing some research before The Last of Us remastered came out because the EU version was censored online as well as more expensive and launched later so I looked into possibly getting it off the US PSN. I found out that the US PSN version would work perfectly both on and offline no matter where it was played so I bought some digital US PSN codes online and having looked back since. I hope to go down this road with most of my game purchases from now on but I'm a little skeptical about Madden.

Firstly does anyone know the price digitally in the UK? I'm assuming knowing EA it'll be £55-60 which I'm not paying. If it is that much, has anyone heard anything about being able to play online using the US version outside of the US? I did import NCAA the last couple of years and was in an online Dynasty for a little while and it worked great, I just want Madden 15 digitally so I can be lazy and not get up lol.

The disc version is £44 which isn't too bad but once you have gone digital and can play any game you want without swapping discs it really is hard to go back. It's the future, I promise  

I'm not sure how much the game is in the UK digitally. I think I'll always buy a hard copy as I usually trade games in and get a return on them, and until it becomes value for money to buy them on psn I will avoid it. 

I carnt imagine it having an affect buying a US copy.

damn. i just change my DNS settings and get U.S. prices man. google it.

Don't you have to have a us psn account etc? I always worried I'd have issues playing online so didn't bother.

I know someone who buys all his games us psn and has had no problems online you'll also get the game early but like pasti I prefer to have a hard copy.

I never had to change DNS to use my US PSN account. Only need to do that if I wanna use US restricted apps like Netflix or HBO Go. I basically only use my US PSN account.
I bought the last couple Maddens on PS3 digitally and never had a problem. I got Madden 25 as a hard copy because it was a free game with my PS4 pre-order. So I can't 100% say it will work on PS4 but I plan on doing the same thing.
The game comes out Tuesday instead of Friday, its cheaper and no need to swap discs. Worst case scenario is that it won't let you complete the checkout. If you can checkout then everything works fine.
And if you have PS+ for one account it works for all accounts on your system. So there shouldn't be a problem in playing online.

This sounds like a great idea and something I've been thinking about for Madden 15. So do I just make a US PSN account? Is it available for pre-order right now?

Might do this right now actually. So make a new PSN account (US), link it to my PS4 and my PS+ sub carries over automatically? I then go into the PS shop and pre-order the game?

I've made a US user acct and linked it to my ps4, so now anything I buy in the US ps store is accessible on my uk psn, is that right?

I believe that is the theory Eternal but I'm not entirely sure, I've been waiting for confirmation before I do it myself.

Done, bought $60 in PSN credit from amazon.com, put it in my US psn wallet and bought the game, says it'll release on the 25th at 9pm.

Yep I've done it too. We can pre-load starting from Sunday.

This opened up a whole can of worms, now I'm looking at all these other games to buy....saving money, hah!

So how much does that make the game in £££ ET?

£37.20 or something like that!

Incidentally, thinking of buying the last of us, not sure if i'll afford myself any time to play it with m15 out shortly, decisions!

That's a cracking price. Think I paid £45 for 25 and only offered £9 on part-ex so it's not like I'll be losing much on the physical copy

So the game will show up and work fine on the uk account even if it's been bought on the is account?

As long as the US account has the ps4 activated as the main console, that's my understanding anyway. I'll know for sure in a couple days

I tested it with some other free games picked up on the US store and I swapped users back to my uk account and accessed them fine, so hopefully all good for m15.

Think I get it now. 
Ordered a $10 code using a cousins Texas address for billing that came through fine. Tried a $50 next and amazon may have cottoned on - a message came up saying they were taking 2 hours to check my details. Busted!

Nah mate, that happened to me too when I ordered 3 $20 codes in a row - I think they're just checking if it's a legimate bank account and actual money is being transferred in case of spammers and whatnot. It will come through.

It didn't affect anything for me, it's literally 3 button clicks to swap between US primary and UK primary.
