M18 Drafted Rookie All-53 Team
The SMLE has compilled his All-Drafted 52 man squad for Madden 18 based on stats, OVR and legendary performances in the league.
POS | Name | Team | SMLE Draft Expert |
QB1 | Zach Mili | Jets | Mili came into the league as a super agile dual threat QB chosen No1 overall but his first season was marred by a plethora of turnovers. He managed to progress each season and became a deep threat resulting in the Milibomber MVP |
QB2 | Paul Martinek | Dolphins | Martinek was drafted in the first round with huge question marks concerning his mental game. The Dolphins were staring down the barrel of a lost season when Martinek stepped up to win ROTY and provide some consistency to an already reliable offense. |
QB3 | Ryon Quinn | Redskins | Quinn tumbled in the draft to the second round where the Redskins pulled the trigger and he quickly supplanted Cousins in his rookie season. His ROTY like stats dragged the team towards playoff contention if only a certain Power HB didn't bruise his way to ROTY. |
HB1 | Deontae Timmons | Chiefs | A late round pick who was expected to spell the other rotational backs on the Chiefs roster, a change in team scheme meant he quickly forced his way to starter and, despite being a plodder, powered his way to an MVP year. |
HB2 | Rodriguez Saunders | Browns | Saunders was a huge unknown ahead of the draft but blew up the combine despite his tape looking subpar. The Browns put him in situations to win and he collected POTW in his first game and never looked back. Super speed made the super team look all that more scary. |
HB3 | Zach Frederick | Panthers | In a season where Timmons took MVP, Frederick also gets a nod. A controversial training camp trade saw him arrive at the Panthers with a stacked running back core but he proved to be the essential thunder to McCaffrey's lightning. |
FB | Reed Frerotte | Chiefs | Timmons couldn't have taken the MVP if it wasn't for the freakishly fast, huge and strong Frerotte. He was a bulldozer as a lead blocker and the Blue Collar rookie of this All-52 team. |
WR1 | Evander Raymond | Seahawks | Raymond was a wildcard in the draft, who would step up for a slightly older Calvin Johnson clone already 24 at the draft. The Seahawks struck gold with this heavyweight puncher and was an essential piece to the rebuild as trade bait for the Jets where he put up monster Mili stats. |
WR2 | Ray Sears | Cowboys | Sears came out the draft with the tag “untrainable” but with defenses focusing on the many Cowboys other threats over the seasons Sears managed to put up great numbers. A rookie pro bowl nod quickly snapped that label off with multiple playoff and superbowl games in tow. |
WR3 | Julius Burns | Steelers | Burns did just that, he burned everyone. The Steelers went from slow and steady run/pass game to a dynamic offensive threat not seen since Mike Wallace. He just ran and ran and ran, WR end arounds and deep routes turned into regular Tds. |
WR4 | Marhsall Ladler | Chiefs | The Chiefs took a risk on the oversized deep threat to compliment their power run game and despite some injury set backs he put up monster numbers including the highlight real deep bomb endzone TD over 2 Bills defenders. |
WR5 | Raymond Dutka | Falcons | Dutka looked like a dud in the draft. The almost cursed draft class looked like a bust but the Falcons and Matty Ice managed to turn heads when Dutka started catching everything. From zero to hero on the team. |
WR6 | Arsenio Waters | Bills | Waters was the No1 overall pick after a shocking Julio Jones trade based on limited game tape and an explosive combine. Despite being injured 8 games he still made the probowl and could've broken OBJ rookie records had he remained healthy all season. |
TE1 | Ashley Mumphrey | Panthers | Call me lazy but it was really hard to pick a TE. Mumphrey was asked to replace Greg Olsen but never really stepped up, Yeast only had one okay season and Ashley wasn't Matty Ice's primary target all resulting in an underwhelming class of TE. They had skill, just not targets. |
TE2 | Deandre Yeast | Titans
TE3 | Christian Ashley | Falcons
LT1 | Taylor Peterson | Dolphins | The Dolphins had a LT already but a policy to take the best player available and a slight drop at the top of the 1st round say Peterson land with a team stacked at OL. He was the cherry on top and a reason why the Dolphins remained so hard to get off the field. |
LT2 | Berry Hadnot | Eagles | Jason Peters is a hard man to replace, but the Eagles had a great OL rebuilding draft class which included Hadnot who allowed newly incoming Andrew Luck to flourish again and march onto a 16-0 season. |
LG1 | Jameel Gipson | Panthers | Gipson could likely claim the title as one of the best linemen in the league. The 2nd round pick was one of the reasons the Panthers spent a season not passing as he blasted holes left and right but managed to eventually round his game out for a great passing season eventually. |
LG2 | Kasey Niklas | Chiefs | Niklas was another key player in the Chiefs newly established power run game but also had great pass blocking skills to let the deep pass develop and let Mahomes let loose. |
C1 | Jackson LeBlanc | Bengals | Drafted in the first round, LeBlanc was had decent size and strength but was great in the run game allowing Mixon to shine as he hit defenders hard. |
C2 | Frank Holt | Steelers | It's hard to replace a fan favourite like Pouncey but Holt did a solid job but never flashed as a late 2nd round pick by the Steelers. |
RG1 | Bruce Sheppard | Jaguars | Sheppard was a steal at the end of the 2nd round and proved to be a road grading run blocker for Fournette and later as a decent pass blocker in the Jags Vertical Pass game. |
RG2 | Matt Cann | Bengals | Another Bengals blocker, this time Cann who was the leader of the super drafted Bengals OL. He had the size, strength and smarts to block in the pass and run game. |
RT1 | Craig Horn | Bengals | Another Bengals blocker, they had a lot of OL needs and managed to fill them in the draft, Horn was a low strength technician who performed marvellously using his huge size. |
RT2 | D J Moulton | Colts | Drafted early in the first round as part of the Colts retool post Andrew Luck, Moulton was a nasty power blocker who let Hill get to the outside. |
LE1 | Shundrez Reeves | Eagles | Reeves was viewed as a one trick speed rusher but the Eagles needed just that. A key player in the vaunted Eagles Wide9/A-Gap defense, Reeves stormed to a ROTY title and numerous records. |
LE2 | Cooper Romanowski | Jets | The Jets love freaks, look at most of this roster and you'll see why, Romanwoski wasn't fighting Aliens or the Predator but looked like an action hero still. A great rookie season and probowl nod meant the Jets looked scary again. |
DT1 | Eldrin Noble | Bills | Noble wasn't originally counted amongst draft royalty, projected in the later rounds but the Bills took a chance in the 2nd round and he went on to earn multiple probowl honours as the 3tech in the Bills Tampa 2 Triangle D. |
DT2 | Gilbert Moody | Colts | Moody turned out to be the badass everyone expected and performed even better when the Colts shifted from a 34 to a 43. Along with another rookie phenom below, Moody anchored the DL for a Colts reload – not rebuild. |
DT3 | Will Burgess | Cowboys | Burgess went overlooked in the draft as Coach's tried to shore up sexier positions, but the Cowboys listened to the draft experts and took the DT at the end of the first round where he quietly went to work, performing season after season. |
DT4 | Blair Giffels | Jets | Everyone laughed at Giffels during the bench press and he slid down draft boards until the Jets took a chance on a non-freak and were rewarded with a great pass rushing specialist ideally suited for the pass heavy AFC East. |
RE1 | Franklin Billups | Chiefs | Billups looked a bit JAG in the draft (Just A Guy), he wasn't a burner or power rusher, but still the Chiefs wisely picked him up at the end of the first where he put up astonishing sack numbers every season. |
RE2 | Morris Dekker | Chiefs | Dekker makes the list as a bigger freak than Romanowski, and putting up 22 rookie sacks and a prowbowl selection despite rotating around the Chiefs DL. The Chiefs D looked scary which was just as good as the offense crumbled in the final season. |
SLB1 | Frank Jones | Ravens | It's a shame the Ravens had to face perennial playoff Coaches in the Browns, Steelers and Bengals as Jones was the greatest athlete in all the drafts. Lightning quick and a brilliant technician, but just not in the position to collect sacks always chasing a lead. |
SLB2 | Jack Mormino | Panthers | Mormino was the drafts wildcard, super fast undersized pass rusher drafted into the Panthers 43 defense as a linebacker. He proved he belonged with 14 rookie sacks and a part of the Panthers nightmare D when Danielle Hunter came to town. |
MLB1 | Kent Rachal | Browns | The Browns coach is a mad scientist, like with Saunders, Rachal wasn't really on many radars but the 6'5” super speed LB was put in a position to win roaming the deep middle of the D. He looked like a safety in a DEs body on the field. |
MLB2 | Dalton Erickson | Redskins | The Redskins were great at developing LBs and Erickson benefited from some great coaching. Putting up respecatable stats in the ultra competitive NFC East. |
MLB3 | Sherard Carter | Colts | Carter was the start of retooling the Colts defense. He came in when it was it's weakest and along with some other key pieces managed to put the fear back into opponents. A great rangey LB worth a high 1st round pick. |
WLB1 | Justin Rushing | Bills | Rushing became a key piece in the Bills Tampa2 Triangle, being able to range the deep field and keep up with crossing routes. He earned probowl honours and became the bane of the AFC East with his superman like INTs. |
WLB2 | Rashaun Byrd | Redskins | Byrd was a late round pick who found the right coach and became an awesome Cover LB. He couldn't quite stick with the team and was traded around, landing with the Lions where he remained a solid backer under a new coach. |
CB1 | Rashaud Mclean | Jets | Another Jets freak! Mclean was drafted to counter Julio Jones, Brandon Cooks and the Dolphins triple headed WR corps and he did just that. He wasn't an interception machine but barely allowed a pass every season. |
CB2 | Randall Bars | Browns | Oh luck, another underrated player drafted by the Browns and turned into a god! Drafted in the 3rd round he soon became known as an exceptional blitzer and zone corner, with decent INT numbers. |
CB5 | Sanchez Lawson | Steelers | The Steelers love an off-man speed CB and Lawson was just that. Drafted in the first round, he never put up huge interceptions but he kept the passing numbers down enough for the offense to flourish. |
CB4 | Tuni McMahon | Bears | McMahon was meant to be a lockdown CB but had some struggles early on with the Bears. Nevertheless he learnt and put up solid numbers locking down his side of the field. |
CB5 | Dougles Burns | Panthers | The only UDFA who made the list!!!!! Burns didn't do much in his first season but slowly became more dependable in the few seasons afterwards with decent INT numbers and wasn't asked to cover for long with the Panthers DEs closing fast. |
FS1 | Javian Meriweather | Browns | Meriweather was part of the Browns first draft hoard, the team already having gone 19-0 got richer as Meriweather became an instant superstar and pick machine in the deep field. |
FS2 | Joey Camarillo | Jets | Camarillo was a height-speed-weight type safety with average skills... He did however have a brilliant DB coach at the Jets who always put him into position for picks out of nowhere. |
FS3 | Falo Long | Dolphins | The Dolphins slowly became overcrowded at safety but Long was a mainstay who always managed to separate every training camp. He didn't post “wow” stats but was a consistent tackler and zone cover safety (who wasn't consistent at the Dolphins). |
SS1 | Bradley Ali | 49ers | I still can't believe Ali dropped so far to the end of the 1st round as the 49ers cackled and handed in the fastest draft card I've ever seen. He quickly became a superstar and locked up the NFC West's offences. |
SS2 | Deandre Olsen | Patriots | I'm a big fan of Olsen (who moved to FS later on), he was drafted in the second round as a jack of all trades yet “did his job” for the Patriots and humbly became a great safety. |
K | Henry Gaudin | Titans | It was very hard to pick a kicker but Gaudin solidly put up decent numbers for numerous seasons without any standout terrible moments to lose games... |
P | Colin Jensen | Bills | The beautiful Colin Jensen earned earned rookie Probowl honours for the Bills (and numerous L'Oriel contracts for is long black locks). 19 in-the-20 punts as a rookie, including a 90+ yard punt against the Jets made Jensen a gorgeous punter. |
PS QB | Chase Lorig | Cowboys | Lorig has great “per pass” numbers and was a runner for the ROTY but he was never asked to do as much as the other QBs above and was surrounded by uncountable weapons and a rock solid OL. Who wouldn't succeed... |
PS HB | Antwan Ray | Patriots | Antwan Ray was a first round pick without a position originally, the Coach favouring the TB12 passing attack. But as TB12 slowed and retired Ray became the flame the team needed to reignite the offense and eventually rivalled Saunders as the best speed back in the league. |
PS WR | C.J. Overstreet | Texans | C.J. Overstreet was lost in the crowd of the Texans WR corps but still did okay when counted on. He was a key cog in the Jaguars trade where he'd find more targets in the deep pass loving Jags offense. |
PS OT | Rafael Guyton | Bengals | Another another Bengals blocker, Guyton didn't quite have the skill as the others but was respectable still, a smart pass blocker who kept the Ginger Ninja and then Dak safe. |
PS G/C | Phillip Koyack | Eagles | Part of the Eagles OL rebuild, he was a great guard in a crowded class of great guards. With great size and speed, he was great at getting to the second level and pulling on blocks. |
PS DL | B J Coleman | Texans | Coleman was a man mountain at the NT spot. He put up 6 sacks as a rookie despite playing the 1gap and eating OL. Another season would've seen the front 7 of the Texans defense feared league wide. |
PS Rush | Bradley Taylor | Jets | The Jets were known for drooling over freak athletes (as above) but Taylor came in as an undersized, slow technician and managed to put up respectable numbers despite his limitations. |
PS LB | Deandre Waters | Jets | Deandre Waters could've had better stats had the Jets roster not been so crowded at LB but with a decent level of INTs and Sacks per season he at least makes the practice squad. |
PS CB | Jason Drakeford | Bills | Drakeford looked like a great pick after Justin Rushing at No24 and narrowly missing out on the Probowl and Rookie awards, he was a solid Nickel CB. But a disastrous sophemore season and average 3rd season saw his value drop once lined up on the outside. |
PS S | O.C. Dunn | Broncos | O. C. Dunn had some question marks in the first round but managed to win ROTY awards and prove to be a solid pick. It's a shame that there was a quick coaching turnover and the roster fell apart so he was overlooked in terms of value to the team. |

Cheers, I got halfway through the write ups and thought "can I not just make this a 32team re-draft?" ahahaha, took a while.

Great work Matt!
2 findings:
1) This guy has to be in as another UDFA:
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
2) Some nice findings there. TE classes were absolutely terrible and no real players were available. If it's the same next year, we may need to adjust XP sliders for TE a bit.

TE was tough to develop, and FB OVR generally stayed the same as when they were drafted as their goal XP was terrible. WR was slightly hard unless they made the probowl. I felt QB, HB and OL were spot on. And no problems progressing defence. There was no dynamite probowl kicker to pick either...
Also, not being able to choose which weekly training session to run might cause issues developing teams how you want. I easily did 70% OL training all Madden 18.
Re: M18 Drafted Rookie All-53 Team
I did as well [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] does this mean no more weekly training?

Safe to say Jets won all the draft accolades this year. If I had finished the season I'd have backed my team of Mon-Stars to get deep in the playoffs
